Redwood High School

August 2015

Dear Redwood Students and Parents,

On behalf of the staff of Redwood High School, I sincerely hope you are enjoying a restful and rewarding summer.  We are looking forward to the beginning of classes on Wednesday, August 19, 2015.

This letter is intended to provide you with information about the start of school and let you know how excited we are about the 2015-2016 school year, welcoming new students, new staff, new parents, and new programs.  Please review all of the Start of the School Year information carefully to make sure you will be prepared for a smooth start to the school year.

We are thankful for all the support we receive from the Redwood community.  Redwood is fortunate to be supported by the enthusiastic involvement of our active parent community.  We are committed to embracing parents and the community in a partnership to help ensure the success of our young people.  I am honored to continue the support of this partnership.  We are so fortunate to have Michelle Sullivan returning as our Redwood PTSA President.  The PTSA is instrumental in providing parent education, staff appreciation and campus beautification.  Also, our Redwood Foundation had a very successful year in 2014-15, surpassing its ambitious fundraising goal yet again and making a significant impact on our academics, arts and athletics.  We are again fortunate that Sydney Joyner will be continuing as the Redwood Foundation President.  Please participate in the Foundation in whatever way you can to help achieve the Foundation’s 100% participation goal.  As principal, it is an honor and a joy to work together with you to provide robust programs and meaningful experiences to meet the diverse needs of all students at Redwood High School.

Thank you for supporting our greener, waste-reducing strategy of posting all of our Start of the School Year information on our website.  You can review all documents (both informational forms and signature-required forms) by going to the “Start of the School Year Information and Forms” link or the parent tab on the Redwood home page (www.redwood.org).

It is important that you review this information.  If you prefer to receive a complete packet in the mail, please call 415-945-3620 and leave your name and mailing address information.  We are happy to mail a packet to you.

As we have done the last few years, we have adjusted our first day of school schedule (see attached schedule).  Freshman schedules will be distributed at 7:30 a.m. on August 19th in the gym. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., freshman students will stop in each of their classes to familiarize themselves with their classroom locations. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors should print out their schedules using Home Access the night before school starts (they will also be able to pick-up their schedules beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the gym).  Classes for all students will begin at 8:40 a.m.

All students must have their photo taken for school records

and submit emergency contact information online

before they will be given their class schedule.

Although the normal bell schedule indicates Wednesdays and Thursdays are on a block schedule, we will be observing a special schedule for Wednesday, August 19th (see attached) and a regular seven period schedule(Tuesday/Friday schedule) on Thursday, August 20th and Friday, August 21st (also attached). Normal bell schedule will begin on Monday, August 24th.

Please take the few minutes necessary to review the items at our website (www.redwood.org) for the all the important information and submit the necessary forms to the office in room 114:

  • Redwood Parking Information
  • Redwood Bell Schedule
  • Redwood Calendar
  • Authorization to Administer Medication
  • Back to School Night Information
  • Golden Gate Bus Information
  • And more!

The 2015-2016 Redwood High School Parent/Student Handbook is available on our website.  Information provided includes: attendance policies, student conduct, student rights, student services, grading, graduation requirements, school emergency plan, and much more.  This is a MUST READ for all Redwood parents and students.

Freshman and new student orientation is on Friday, August 14th. Freshman will meet in the gym at 8:00 a.m. and transfer students will meet in the library at 8:00 a.m. School photos will be taken on this day – freshman and new student photos will be taken between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and again between 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the CEA. Sophomore and junior students may have their picture taken between 8:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

All students may also have their photo taken on Tuesday, August 18th from 8:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the CEA.

We look forward to a successful and rewarding 2015-2016 school year!  If you have questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to call us at 415-945-3620.

Sincerely,

David
